Prompt Engineering Basics for Marketers and Content Teams
MAY 6, 2024 | BY SMARTWEBIX TEAM | AIMost disappointing AI results come from vague instructions. You do not need to be technical to write good prompts. You just need to be specific.
A simple framework
- Role: tell the AI who it should act as, such as an experienced B2B copywriter.
- Task: state exactly what you want, for example five subject lines for a product launch email.
- Context: provide the audience, product, goals and any facts it must use.
- Format: say how the answer should look: a table, bullet points, 150 words, and so on.
- Constraints: list what to avoid, such as jargon, exaggerated claims or competitor names.
Give examples
Paste a paragraph written in your brand voice and ask the AI to match its tone. Examples are often more effective than long descriptions.
Iterate
Treat the first answer as a draft. Ask for shorter versions, different angles or a friendlier tone. Follow-up instructions are usually quicker than starting again.
Keep humans in charge
Always verify facts, remove anything that sounds generic and add real examples from your business. Save prompts that work in a shared document so the whole team can reuse them.
Good prompting is a skill that improves with practice, and it pays off quickly.
