Measuring SEO Success: KPIs That Actually Matter
APRIL 26, 2026 | BY SMARTWEBIX TEAM | SEOIt is easy to drown in SEO data. The key is to choose a few measures that link search activity to business outcomes, and to review them consistently.
Visibility metrics
- Impressions: how often your pages appear in search results.
- Average position for key queries: track a focused list, not thousands of keywords.
- Branded search growth: more people searching your name signals rising awareness.
Traffic quality metrics
- Organic clicks and click-through rate: helpful for judging titles and descriptions.
- Engagement: time on page, scroll depth and returning visitors.
- Landing pages: which pages bring in visitors and whether they match your goals.
Business metrics
- Leads and enquiries from organic search: form submissions, calls and chats.
- Conversion rate: the percentage of organic visitors who take action.
- Revenue or lead value: connect to your CRM where you can.
- Cost per acquisition compared with other channels.
Technical health
Track indexed pages, crawl errors and Core Web Vitals to catch problems early.
Report simply
Present one page each month: what changed, why it matters and what you will do next. Compare against the previous period and the same month last year to account for seasonality.
Beware vanity metrics
High traffic from irrelevant searches does not pay the bills. Always ask: did this bring the right people, and did they take action?
