Google’s March 2025 Core Update: What Site Owners Should Check

MARCH 17, 2025 | BY SMARTWEBIX TEAM | SEO

Google began rolling out its March 2025 core update on 13 March. As with every core update, the aim is to improve how its systems surface helpful, reliable content, and rankings can shift in both directions.

How to read the impact

Wait until the rollout is complete, which typically takes around two weeks. Then compare a similar period before and after in Search Console, looking at pages and queries rather than only sitewide totals.

If you gained

Do not assume you are safe forever. Note what these pages have in common, such as depth, originality or clear expertise, and apply the same standards elsewhere.

If you lost

  • Compare your page with the ones that now outrank it. Are they more complete, more current or easier to use?
  • Check for outdated information, thin pages and duplicated content.
  • Make sure it is clear who wrote the content and why they can be trusted.
  • Review page experience: speed, intrusive ads and mobile usability.

What not to do

Do not rewrite everything overnight, buy links or mass-produce new pages. Google’s advice for core updates has been consistent: there is nothing to “fix” technically, but you can focus on producing genuinely helpful, people-first content.

Keep a log

Record update dates alongside your own site changes. Over time, this timeline makes patterns much easier to understand.
