Building a Consistent Brand Voice Across Every Channel
JULY 17, 2024 | BY SMARTWEBIX TEAM | BRANDINGIf your website sounds formal, your Instagram sounds like a teenager and your emails sound robotic, customers notice. A consistent brand voice builds recognition and trust.
What is brand voice?
It is the personality of your words: how you greet people, how you explain things and what you never say. Tone can flex by situation, but the voice stays recognisably yours.
Define it in four steps
- Pick three to five adjectives: for example friendly, precise, confident.
- Write do and don’t examples: “We say ‘let’s get started’, not ‘please be advised’.”
- Set vocabulary rules: preferred terms, words to avoid and how you handle jargon.
- Decide on formatting habits: emoji, exclamation marks, sentence length and headline style.
Adapt without losing yourself
Your website can be a little more polished than a quick social reply, and a complaint response should be calmer than a product launch. The values behind the words remain the same.
Keep everyone aligned
Put your guidelines in a one-page document with real examples and share it with everyone who writes for you, including freelancers. Review a sample of posts each quarter to see whether they still sound like you.
Consistency does not mean repetition. It means people can tell it is you before they see the logo.
